The Cross of Christ means Life

Proverbs 4:1-6 Get Wisdom

The Lord speaks to us about our need to heed the wise instruction of our parents, to avoid the siren call of the harlot (read Proverbs 4-8) and to seek wisdom and understanding. It comes to me how few today care about wisdom. The word seems almost to have fallen into disuse. So far as any systematic method to obtain it – our society seems to know of none!

Knowledge! Now that is a different matter. We are in the information age and with the click of a mouse button or a few keystrokes you can load a CD or log onto the Internet and get more information than you know what to do with. I fear we have the idea that if we can "educate" ourselves, get "information" on a given subject, we will automatically have wisdom. This has obviously not worked! We have a great many education people who exercise no wisdom. As an example look at many of the recent court decisions.

How do we obtain wisdom and understanding? We repent of our own ways and ideas and seek God with our whole heart to do His will.

"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; A good understanding have all those who do His commandments; His praise endures forever." Psalm 111:10 (NCV)

"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding." Proverbs 9:10 (NCV)

"The beginning of wisdom is: Acquire wisdom; And with all your acquiring, get understanding. "Prize her, and she will exalt you; She will honor you if you embrace her. She will place on your head a garland of grace; She will present you with a crown of beauty." Proverbs 4:7-9 (NCV)

"Lord, I repent of the many times I have placed my own ideas and plans over Yours. I ask that Your Holy Spirit will grant me Your wisdom and grace to live as Your servant, with a heart that seeks after You. Grant me wisdom that I might walk in Your ways and be a light for Your truth."

Amen, so be it!
Shalom
