Jeremiah 48:11 God's Vision or the Status Quo?
As I read the book, and listened to the Lord direct me through my studies and devotions in the Bible, it was quickened to me again how vital it is to seek the Lord with my whole heart. It is so easy to become "content", not just with our own idea of Godliness, but with the status quo ... while people perish. Not only does my vision for the salvation of souls perish but the vision, freshness and excitement of my relationship with God also perishes as I settle for the status quo. How about you?
Martin Luther wrote these words in one of his hymns in 1524:
One of the convictions central to the reformer was that of the priesthood of all believers. Do we really believe that we are a kingdom of priests unto our God? Do we acknowledge that God has indeed poured out His graces on MY mind and heart? Am I (you) prepared, then, to accept my (your) position as a priest before Him, to enter fully into the ministry He has called me (you) to?
There is a lot of talk in these days about the coming of a great revival in preparation for ... (Christ's Return, the New Mellenium, etc). I pray that is true but I know for certain it is God's will to stir up His people (2 Chronicles 7:14). I know that He does not want us to "settle on our lees". Many of us "have been content from our youth", confident in the rightness of our theological system, doctrine and religious practices. If that is where we "settle", it spoils what God wants in us. His desire is to "pour us from vessel to vessel" that the end product (you and I, His servants) might be the best we can be.
Amen - let it be so.
