The Cross of Christ means Life

Psalm 73:21-28 It Is Good To Praise The Lord!

King David was called "a man after God's own heart". Considering the glaring sins in his life one might wonder what it was about David that made him so "special" as to be called by such high praise. Nothing. That's right, there was nothing in David that made him "special". David has come to realize that God's love for him was beyond conditions (unconditional). David couldn't meet any conditions for this kind of favor but God, for his own reasons and by His own will, chose David.

This worked in David a thorough understanding of God's grace, His great love and compassion toward him. David knew that even when he was at His worst, God stayed with him. He also knew that when he was at his best he deserved nothing. I believe that did two things for David, and will for us as well.

First, David was drawn to God by the Holy Spirit and God's great love and grace in choosing him. Even when David chose sin instead of God's ways he turned back to God when he came to himself, whether through wrestling with his conscience or having a prophet like Nathan point out his sin.

Second, David relied upon God as his "refuge". Rather than trusting his own strength, chariots and horses, wealth and power, David chose to rely upon God.

"28But as for me, it is good to be near God.
I have made the Sovereign LORD my refuge;
I will tell of all your deeds."

"Lord, help us also to rely upon You and to trust you. Be with us and cause us to walk in Your ways." Amen.

Shalom
